Wills With An Exceptional Twist

Your will   is constructed to help your family organise the disposal of your estate when you’ve passed away. Whilst yours may be simple, here are a few with some quirks to them.

Will’s With An Exceptional Twist
It seems prudent to make a will. The majority of us realize this, but actually doing it seems such a inconvenience.  How much thought went in these “wills with a difference”?

Even the famous conjurer and escapologist, Harry Houdini, couldn’t trick death. Having died from a burst appendix, one of his greatest shocks came with the will reading. His magicians equipment went to his former partner Theodore, who was also his brother. His magical skills fizzled on the next items – his ample array of books on magic and the occult. He left these to the American Society for Psychical Research, but only on the condition that the research officer J Malcolm Bird, who additionally was the editor of their journal, resigned. They refused the terms the compilation was given to the Library of Congress.

The stage rabbits that he used in his act vacated their hats and were given to the kids of friends. Continuing the wierd style, his gave his spouse ten words, which formed a secret code, with the pledge that he would use these words to reach her from the afterlife. Each year for 10 years, following his death, she faithfully held séances, but Houdini never made contact.

Rock and blues singer Janis Joplin had a brief but interesting career. She recorded several rock anthems and four albums, including “To Love Somebody” and “Me and Bobby McGee”. After years of drug addiction, she passed away from an overdose, aged 27. Two days before her demise in 1970 her  free will      the figure of 2,500 dollars to sponsor an all night wake at her favourite pub so that her mates could “get blasted after I’m gone.” It must have been some wake – that was a sizable amount of cash back in 1970.

We’ve all read about people that, unexpectedly, donate all their money to the cats’ home, much to the disbelief of their family. Lot’s of family feuds begin when a will is read. As long as the person who made the will is of sound mind and not under duress, there is often little that can be done to contest such a decision.

Quirks apart, if you pass on without leaving a will, the people who you would wish to inherit wont necessarily be the ones that do so. You might have a partner of many years, but if you’re not married or in a legal partnership, he or she won’t receive your estate, heedless of your intentions and assurances. This can be upsetting when it’s not clearly stated and can result in awkward fiscal consequences.

The up to date method to get your will under way is to search online and locate a cheap wills      . However basic your aims are, it’s best to get the professionals to write it for you and you can be assured that you’re leaving things exactly how you would want.
